Come, Follow Me... |
I felt His robes brush against my cheek, and I knew to rise up and follow.
That is the message – to follow Jesus – not to go your own way then beg Him to come to you, or to stay seated, fixtured in one place when He calls you to come.
He calls: “Come. Follow Me . . . “
Mathew 17:4a “Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here . . .’ “
So, I followed Jesus as we went through a hot, dry dessert. I heard Him say to me “stay behind Me and learn to leave only one set of tracks. This is how you fool the enemy. When you walk closely behind Me, My robes engulf you and the evil one cannot see you.”
The sun was hot on our backs. The dessert felt like death. The day grew long and the birds fed us. After we had eaten, we continued to walk and I began to smell salt water. As we reached the top of a huge sand dune, I looked over and there was a great ocean – ALIVE! You could feel the life in it.
When I looked behind, I could see the tracks we made in the sand. The tracks far away from us –at the point where we started, ( I was able to see that far away), there were four tracks, but as we progressed there were only two. I knew that it was at that point that I was truly following the One that I love. . .
Then we began to descend. It was very difficult for me to follow Him because the way was steep and difficult.
The Lord said to me, “Go lower.” And so I continued to follow Him.
As we went down lower, a heavy pressure began to squeeze my heart until I could barely breathe. I reached out to touch Him, and I had allowed myself to stray out of His path. As I fell forward, He caught me and pulled me close to Him once more. As soon as He touched me, I felt relief.
We continued down toward the great body of water, and once again I realized it was so alive!
As we began to reach level ground, the Lord turned and began walking towards a rocky bluff. It was there that I heard the sound of water rushing and I began to see a stream that fed into this great body of water to our left.
This stream poured directly out of a great rock, and the Lord walked over to it, cupped His hands, and drank deeply.
Then He turned to me and asked me if I would join Him and drink from the cup of suffering.
I answered the Lord, “Lord, where can I be except with you? If you drink this cup, then so must I because I know if I don’t, I won’t be allowed to follow you, and I do not want to go back – back to that place you led me out of.”
And the Lord told me, “Many of My children turn back from here. They won’t follow Me. Instead, they choose to go back. But those who remain in Me will find victory and life. . . life beyond measure. So come, child. Come. Follow Me.”
And so I drank from His hands the cup of suffering. And at that point I joined the water rushing toward that great body of water that was full of life. And Jesus and I were carried away – down, down, down until we became one with the living water.
We are the salt of the earth. “ Come here to receive your saltiness. Come. Follow Me.”
Isaiah 31:4,5
“As a lion growls, as great lion over his prey –
and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against him,
he is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamour –
so the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion
and on its heights.
Like birds hovering overhead the Lord Almighty will shield Jerusalem;
He will shield it and deliver it,
He will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.”
