#40 “(Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions in Israel.) So the kinsman-redeemer said to Boaz, ‘Buy it yourself.’ And he removed his sandal.” Ruth 4:7-8 “It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love. The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God; so He got up from the meal, took off His outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around His waist. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. “He came to Simon Peter, who said to Him, ‘Lord, are you going to wash my feet?’ “Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’ “’No,’ said Peter, ‘you shall never wash my feet.’ “Jesus answered, ‘Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.’ “’Then, Lord,’ Simon Peter replied, ‘not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!’ “When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. ‘Do you understand what I have done for you?’ He asked them. ‘You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’, and rightly so, for that is what I AM. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.’” John 13:1-9, 12-17 The devil said, “Buy it yourself!” Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love, and the Lord and Teacher removed His clothing, knelt down at our feet, took off our sandals, washed our feet, drying them with the towel that was covering Him, and said, “I will wash you so that you do have part with Me.” For the redemption… “They stripped Him…” Matthew 27:28a For the redemption… “This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, ‘They divided My garments among them and cast lots for My clothing.’ So this is what the soldiers did.” John 19:24b For the redemption… “God said, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’ Then He said, ‘I AM the God of your father, I AM the God of Abraham, I AM the God of Isaac and I AM the God of Jacob. I AM who I AM…I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:5b-6, 14 For the redemption… “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. Then He placed His right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I AM the First and the Last. I AM the Living One; I was dead, and behold I AM alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.’” Revelation 1:17 For the redemption… “’I AM the Alpha and Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty!” Revelation 1:8 I AM…for the redemption. |
